HALO Shot Master

Fundamentals of Effective Offense

Look at the shot of Larry Bird, Reggie Miller, Glenn Rice and Rik Smits.
Each of these players can get a shot off under pressure. It is not how
high they jump, but how quickly the shot is released. They do not
rush their shot, rather they understand the relationship between the
defender's position and the room needed to shoot effectively.

1. Keep the ball high and face the goal. 2. High release point on your shot.

By keeping the ball high and facing the goal, you make the defender
uncertain. You will be able to see your teammates and take
advantage of any mistakes the defender makes. You can move the
defender by faking a pass or shot.

By using the high release point, your shot will be quicker and you will be
"taller." This will allow you to get a shot off under pressure.

3. Legs. 4. Arch the ball.

Legs generate the energy for your shot. Using more legs is the answer
for almost any problem with the shot. You should use a small, quick
explosion in your feet and ankles much like jumping rope. This will
keep your shot quick and crisp with a snap to the follow-through.

Good arch makes the goal larger. You will make more shots with
better arch.

Note: You should not strain to shoot the ball. The energy should
come from you legs. Develop a good shot and increase your range
as you get stronger and more consistent.
